The Ministry of Railways has issued updated instructions regarding ex-gratia relief for passengers and road users involved in train accidents and untoward incidents. These revised rates came into effect on September 18, 2023.

Additional Relief for Long-Term Hospitalization

For passengers with grievous injuries hospitalized beyond 30 days, additional daily relief is provided for a maximum of 12 months:+1

  • Train Accidents: Rs. 3,000 per day.
  • Untoward Incidents: * Rs. 1,500 per day for the first 6 months.
    • Rs. 750 per day for the remaining 5 months.
  • Release Schedule: Payments are released every 10 days or upon discharge, whichever is earlier.

Key Implementation Details

  • Immediate Relief: Up to Rs. 50,000 may be paid in cash immediately to cover initial expenses. The remainder is paid via RTGS, NEFT, or cheque.+2
