Paternity Leave (PL) rules for Railway Employees
- A male Railway servant (including an apprentice) with less than two surviving children, may be granted Paternity Leave by an authority competent to grant leave for a period of 15 days.
- PL can be granted during the confinement of his wife for childbirth, i.e., up to 15 days before, or up to six months from the date of delivery of the child.
- It is granted for a maximum of 15 Days.
- PL can be availed for a single spell.
- If it is not availed within 6 months of the delivery of the child, it will lapse.
- PL is not debited against the leave account.
- PL can be combined with any other type of leaves.
- Paternity leave may not normally be refused.
- With effect from 22.07.2009 it can be sanctioned in case of valid adoption of a child below one year for 15 days. It can be availed within 6 months from the date of adoption.
