Carriage of charpoys.–

(ii) For the distance it is carried after being detected till the destination
station, once the charpoy has been moved to the brakevan at the owner’s
responsibility: The charpoy will be charged as per the rates under Rule
517(1).
(a) If detected at the destination station: If the charpoy is found unbooked at the
destination, it will be charged at six times the rate shown under Rule 517 (1) for
the entire distance with the minimum charge being INR 50.

In Indian Railways’ Second Sitting (2S) class, the free luggage allowance is 35 kg per passenger, with a maximum permissible limit of 70 kg. Unbooked or excess luggage beyond the maximum limit can attract heavy fines.

When luggage is booked in the brake van on Indian Railways without declaring its value and paying the percentage charge (PCEV), the railway’s monetary liability for loss or damage is limited to ₹100 per kilogram (kg) of the lost or damaged luggage. ( As per Section 103 of Railway Act 1989) .
